A look into the Arcade Mode for #SFV Arcade Edition

A look into the Arcade Mode for #SFV Arcade Edition

Yesterday, Capcom treated us to an in-depth look at a highly requested feature for Street Fighter V…specifically, the Arcade Mode that will be introduced in SFV: Arcade Edition on January 16, 2018. As an added bonus, they applied some special touches to this particular mode, so that it sings to the franchise’s history in honor of its 30th anniversary!

When you head to the Arcade Mode, you will have the option to choose from one of six ladders, each of which represents a unique title in the Street Fighter franchise. In each path, you’ll only be allowed to choose from characters included in the title that reflects the path you’ve chosen. For example, if you play the SF3 ladder, you can only choose from Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Akuma, Laura, Urien, Alex, Kolin and Ibuki. The paths are as follows:

  • Street Fighter
  • Street Fighter II
  • Street Fighter Alpha
  • Street Fighter III
  • Street Fighter IV
  • Street Fighter V

In addition, you can choose your difficulty level and however many rounds you must win each match.

After each match, you’ll be allowed to choose between different opponents. One will typically be easier whereas the other will be a bit more challenging, but also more rewarding for your score. And your score bears some importance, because after each month, all players’ scores from Arcade Mode will be compared with one another, and the player with the highest score will be rewarded with an in-game title to use for their player card!

The Arcade Mode also presents the trademark Bonus Stage which debuted in the first Street Fighter. With the help of a computer-controlled character, you’ll be challenged to break up to twenty barrels as they plummet from above you. Naturally, how well you do in the Bonus Stage will impact how much you add to your score.

Now, here comes the best part. As we all know, character endings are possibly the most fascinating element about every fighting game’s arcade mode, but once again, Street Fighter V takes it to another level! Depending on how you complete the Arcade Mode, you can unlock up to two-hundred different endings for the cast. Yes, you read that correctly: two-hundred different endings! Amazing!

If you’re not sure about the conditions to unlock each ending, you can visit the game’s Gallery mode to learn that information.

As a reminder, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be playable at the Capcom Cup in Anaheim this weekend. The pre-launch build will also include the option to play the game’s Arcade Mode for those who wish to get a feel for it. Bear in mind that the content seen in the pre-launch build may differ from the release version.

In addition, a preview stream for SFV’s Arcade Mode took place yesterday. As the hosts played through the mode, we were treated to glimpses at how each character’s second V-trigger option works (every cast member is getting a second V-trigger to choose from in Arcade Mode), as well as potential balance changes to a portion of the roster, though none are explicitly highlighted. Take a look at this compilation from XusesGB below to see the new V-triggers in action!

Fun fact: the match transitions and the changes to the UI display in the matches look absolutely dazzling!

Although Arcade Edition arrives next month, you can download Street Fighter V for PS4 or Steam (PC) right now if you can’t wait to try out the game! If you choose to wait to purchase the Arcade Edition, it will come with a $39.99 price tag for both platforms. For anybody who already owns a copy of SFV, the Arcade Edition update will be free of charge.
